We are pleased to reveal the winning design of our 20th Anniversary Logo Design Competition! Congratulations to Ms Neela Barve for submitting the winning entry. The rationale of the logo is as follows: “The smiling seniors are looking back at 20 years of history and find that RSVP has built a thriving community of volunteers in Singapore, contributing to the smart nation.”

We would like to welcome chairpersons Ms Linda Quek (Chairman, Mentally Disadvantaged Outreach Programme) and Ms Marie Mattar (Chairman, Corporate Communications Committee). Ms Mattar is also Chairman of the Activity Circles under Volunteer Learning Centre and she will be the Organising Chairperson for RSVP?s 20th Anniversary Celebrations.

As the new year begins, I would like to start by wishing all of you a Happy Lunar New Year! 2018 marks RSVP Singapore’s 20th Anniversary and we are in for an eventful year ahead. On 31 July, the charity event “Embrace Volunteerism, Serve With A Heart” held by SPH had raised $213,888 for the President’s Challenge 2017. RSVP is proud to be among the participating VWOs to promote active ageing. Our volunteers also got the chance to present to President Tony Tan handmade towel cupcakes, as well as introduce our new volunteer management system VOOP, which was co-innovated with non-profit institution Trampolene Ltd, which is a spin-off of A*STAR.

It has been such a pleasure to meet many new friends during recent events. I hope to meet many more of you in the coming months. If you are in Bishan, do drop by my ofce to say hello and introduce yourself! Having been a volunteer in other non-proft organisatons since 2007, I would love to hear about your volunteering journey and how you became a part of the RSVP family.

Time passes so quickly. It is now November — the month for RSVP members to nominate members to serve on the RSVP Board of Management for the new Fiscal Year 2016 — 2018. We received 9 nominations this time, and hence had a total of 9 candidates. As the requirement to have an election is a minimum of 10 candidates, no election was necessary. All 9 candidates were vetted and accepted as they have fulfilled our requirements. These 9 candidates were introduced during the 17th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 18 November for members’ final approval before being confirmed as members of RSVP’s Board of Management.

The month of August was a busy month for RSVP Singapore as we prepared for NSVM 2016. NSVM 2016’s opening ceremony, held at Yio Chu Kang CC, attracted 350 guests! Our Guest Of Honour was Dr Koh Poh Koon, Minister of State for Ministry of Trade and Industry & Ministry of National Development, MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC. I would like to thank Dr Koh taking time off his busy schedule to grace the event.
This year, we continue our efforts to encourage more seniors to come forth and volunteer to not only help themselves, but to also help the less privileged and needy in our society.
