On 18 June at 7.15pm, 30 members, staff and beneficiaries from the Malay Youth Literary Association (4PM) broke fast with 30 of our RSVP senior volunteers at our Bishan office. This is the first time RSVP is organising such an event and it is heartening to see seniors and youths of different races and backgrounds coming together to bond in a meaningful occasion. Also, this event symbolised RSVP’s drive to push inter-generational volunteerism and aim to promote volunteerism within the Malay community.

Changi Service Ambassador (CSA) Mr Mustafa Bin Mohamed @ Mos Zay was one of the winners of the 1st Class Service Act Award presented in April at Changi Airport. Initiated by the Changi Airport Group (CAG) Quality Service Management team, the awards were given to individuals who went the extra mile in providing service. As a CSA, Mos Zay can often be spotted providing excellent customer service and assistance to travellers and visitors at Changi Airport.

RSVP Singapore held a Charity Gala dinner at Park Royal Hotel on Beach Road to raise funds for new and existing programmes, as well as to support its plans to mobilise more seniors to take up volunteering. More than 300 guests attended the Dinner where the Guest of Honour was Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Community, Culture & Youth. Other guests included Mr Lee Hock Moh, a 1981 Cultural Medallion winner, who donated one of his prized ink paintings for auction and Dato’ Seri Jackson Teo PBM, founder of Teo Heng KTV…

On 16 February 2016, 18 RSVP senior volunteers gathered at Sian Chay Medical Institution (Boon Keng branch) to go through a health screening. Since 1st February, RSVP volunteers have been able to collect their RSVP membership cards which will entitle them to a full and complimentary health screening and treatment at all Sian Chay Medical Institution outlets in Singapore. Present to mark this special occasion were RSVP President Koh Juay Meng, Sian Chay Medical Institution Chairman Dato’ Seri Toh Soon Huat BBM and NVPC CEO Melissa Kwee.

When we reopened our office on 10 February to usher in the new year of the Monkey, we did it with a big bang. Thanks to the hard work of Skills Future Working Committee, RSVP’s Silver Infocomm Junction (SJI) can now provide ICT workshops under WDA’s Skills Future Scheme. This means that all Singaporeans aged 50 years and above can enrol in our workshops utilising their $500 credit given by the Government.

The 17th Annual General Meeting of RSVP Singapore was successfully held on 28 November 2015. Ninety members attended, fulfilling the required quorum. This year, we went back to the old days so that many volunteers could reminisce the past and celebrate with their own touch of vintage style. The multipurpose hall of the Grassroots Club was spruced up with colourful balloon sculptures done by our Balloon Activity Circle. More than 280 volunteers turned up for this special occasion. The night started off with a welcome speech by RSVP President Koh Juay Meng who thanked all members for their great contributions in particular for the success of the National Senior Volunteer Month 2015.

This is the ninth year that we are celebrating Silver IT Fest (previously called the Silver Infocomm Day). The theme for this year is “Colour your Life with IT” which consisted of a series of seminars, IT workshops, and a carnival-cum-exhibition for seniors to experience emerging technologies. RSVP is pleased to continue to be a training partner of IDA in this annual event benefiting all seniors of the nation. New courses were introduced this year – “Introduction to Mac”, “Introduction to Lenovo Tablet” and “Mobile Apps of Government Services.”

National Senior Volunteer Month (NSVM), RSVP Singapore’s major campaign to promote senior volunteerism at the national level, officially came to an end on 9 October. Held at RSVP’s Multipurpose Hall, the closing ceremony was graced by Health Minister Gan Kim Yong as Guest-of-Honour.
