Volunteering since November 2019

Upon my retirement, my son wanted me to continue to stay active and relevant, so he went online to look for a volunteering organisation which offers a variety of volunteering programmes reaching out to different beneficiaries. He found RSVP Singapore and signed me up for the Open House. And that was how I began my volunteering journey here.

During the Open House I attended back in August 2019, volunteers could choose to try out the ad-hoc volunteering opportunities, so I signed up to help out at Foodbank and have been with Episodic Volunteering Programme ever since.

In the initial outbreak of COVID-19 in March 2020, RSVP Singapore collaborated with Temasek Foundation to help out with the #BYOBClean (Bring Your Own Clean Bottle) initiative at the different community clubs – distributing hand sanitisers to residents across over 30 CCs. Close to 300 volunteers participated in this project. I, too, helped out with the sanitiser distribution at Kampung Ubi and Bishan Community Clubs. The hours were long and tiring, especially on humid days, but through the encouragement of other like-minded volunteers coming together for a common cause, I am inspired to give my very best as a team.

Volunteering makes me feel young at heart because I’m hanging out with the younger generation and it give me the opportunities to meet people from all walks of life!
